2020 - 2021 Midvale Middle’s Return-To-School Plan
Required throughout the School
● Face coverings must be worn except for eating and drinking and special classes.
● Physical distancing will be required when possible.
● Hand sanitizing/washing stations have been strategically placed in the building.
Entry/Exit & Transportation
● Front doors will open at 7:15 a.m.
● Main hallway and bus doors will open at 7:30 a.m.
● Entry/Exit doors will be propped open to reduce the use of high touch points.
● After School Program participants will be dismissed 2 minutes early.
● Students that need to pick up an instrument will be dismissed 2 minutes early.
● Teachers will escort classes out of the building.
● Students will be assigned seats on the bus and required to wear face coverings.coverings.
Hallways and Stairwells
● Students will walk on the right side, indicated by signage and carpet.
● Students will walk on the right side of the stairs, indicated by arrows.
● Adults will be present in the hallways to remind students to stay on the right side.
● Signage will be placed throughout the school as reminders to stay 6 ft. apart.
● Hall passes will be digital and closely monitored by teachers and administrators.
● Staff will be assigned stairwells to sanitize after each passing period.
● Full sanitization and cleaning will be done at the end of each day.
● Students will not be allowed to eat or drink in the hallways.
Classroom
● Students will limit contact with other students and classroom objects.
● Students will be required to stay in their assigned seat.
● Students will be asked to report safety and sanitation concerns to their teacher.
● Extra furniture will be removed from the classrooms.
● Students will sanitize their desk and chair at the beginning of each class period.
● Teachers will sanitize their equipment as often as possible.
● Each classroom will have hand sanitizer available for student and teacher use.
Cafeteria
● Breakfast will be served from 7:15 to 7:45 a.m. with physical distancing protocols.
● To promote physical distancing we will have three lunches instead of two.
● Cafeteria employees will wear face coverings and gloves at all times.
● Sanitization stations will be set up at the entrance of the cafeteria.
● Signage will indicate the flow of traffic and physical distancing in the lunch lines.
● Students will sit on marked locations on table benches allowing for 6 ft. distancing.
● Students will be given 15 minutes to eat and 15 minutes to go outside.
● Tables will be cleaned and sanitized after every lunch.
● Food areas will be sanitized between each lunch and at the end of each day.
● Students will be asked to sanitize their hands upon leaving the cafeteria.
Drinking Fountains
● Signage will be placed on the floor indicating a separation of 6 ft.
● All drinking fountains will be limited to water bottle filling stations.
Lockers
● Lockers will not be used this year to reduce congregations in the hallway.
Student Supplies
The school will provide each student with the following:
● Mesh Cinch Sacks (no backpacks will be allowed)
● Chromebook
● Barcoded badge and sticker for lunch, bus pass, and rewards.
● Water bottle
● In place of planners, Google calendar and Canvas calendar.
● Digital copies of student handbook and PBIS presentations.
● Instead of a binder, students will be provided with folders.
● Pencil pouches with highlighters, pencils, and pens.
Restrooms
● Labels on the floors will indicate 6 ft. of physical distancing.
● Signage will indicate maximum capacity for each restroom.
● High touch points in the restrooms will be sanitized throughout the day.
● Restrooms will be sanitized nightly.
Chromebooks
● Chromebooks will be checked out to all students the first week of school.
● Check out will be contactless by scanning student ID cards.
● Cleaning guidelines will be provided to students.
Library
● Library books will be accessed through a digital request form.
● Books will be quarantined and cleaned before the next checkout.
● Unfortunately for the time being, the library will be closed during lunches.
Gym
● Gym lockers will not be used this year.
● Additional equipment will be purchased to minimize student contact.
● Curriculum will be altered to adhere to State Guidelines.
Large Gatherings
● Back to School Night will be held virtually.
● Per state and district requirements, we will not be having large group gatherings.
● Assemblies will be pre recorded or streamed live.
After School Program
● Students will receive a grab and go snack.
● Face coverings will be required and physical distancing will be maintained.
Specific Class Information
● The school will follow district protocols for special classes.
● Alternative locations will be used when needed to maintain physical distancing.
Special Education
● Student’s IEPs will be provided the same opportunities as their peers.
● Student’s IEPs will be reviewed for health issues.
COVID-19 Guidance
● Directives from the health department will be followed in the case positive test.
● Parents will go through a symptom checklist prior to bringing a student to school.
● Attendance rules will be adjusted to encourage parents to keep ill students home.
● All assignments will be on Canvas for student access for any absences.
