School Community Council Meeting Notes, November 5, 2025
I. Updated Bylaws –
a. The state will be doing an audit on the bylaws. Possibly making adjustments to the current/updated bylaws
b. We have already approved our bylaws for this year.
II. Action Item: Review and approve the minutes for October 2025
a. Unable to remember who motioned and seconded to approve the September 2025 minutes
b. Motion to approve 1st: Jason Baxter and 2nd: Amy Sounten. Motion is unanimous and approved.
III. Day of Caring Event
a. Jessica PTA President talked about Dog shelter care packages, lunches for road home, read to the elementary schools
b. Reality Town is tomorrow, November 7, 2025
c. Coat event today, November 6, 2025; many students picked up coats
d. Thanksgiving Heroes; deadline cut off early, we still have families that need assistance
e. We have food bags available to those who are impacted by the freeze/cut on SNAP benefits. This does not impact school lunch benefits.
f. Holiday Support Event is coming up. We will be sticking with basic needs (i.e. laundry detergent kits, blankets, and Amazon Wish lists.
IV. Reality Town (11/7/2025) – Amy Sounten
a. Science Class has prepared and assigned jobs to each student.
b. Talking about the Transition to High School. PCCR Meeting meetings, talking about individual plans. Students and Parents are invited.
V. SCC School Safety Plan – ConnieTrue Simmons
a. Midvale’s Safety Plan
i. Did you feel the information presented was helpful? – Council Response – Yes. They feel there is a discrepancy between what social media will post about events, versus the actual procedure being followed from a district and school level. Can we recap at the end of the week of the event and possibly give parents a heads up when some type of drill is taking place.
ii. What is the #1 Safety Concern for the school: The ability for community members to be informed about the difference between Safety Actions.
iii. Additional Note: The “Garage Doors” have the frosted seals installed, so they cannot see who is in the classroom. 70% of shooting incidents are over in 5 minutes. 90% end in 10 minutes.
iv. The new system, once activated, closes all the POD Doors to minimize harm and isolate perpetrators.
v. Shelter in Place – There is nothing on the website, explaining drop off and pick up times. ConnieTrue Simmons is part of the Emergency Planning committee for the district and will be developing a plan.
VI. Need to approve School Safety Report to the district
a. Motion to approve: Carolee Bedima, Second Janette Pasaye ; Passed unanimously
VII. PTSA – Michelle Brandon
a. 62 members
b. Joint the PTSA Calendar
c. Need: Nominating Committee needs to be appointed.
d. PTSA Meeting: In Person Meeting, Tuesday, November 11, 2025
e. Committee needs to be formed by December 31, 2025
f. At Mount Jordan Middle School, there is 250 students in the PTSA. We are looking to mirror that number for engagement and additional involvement.
VIII. Next SCC Meeting, Wednesday, December 3, 2015, 6-7 pm @ Midvale Middle School
