March  5, 2025 – 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Members Present: Steve Brown (chair /parent), Lyndzi Elsmore (parent), Janette Pasaye (parent), Kimberly Menssen (parent), Michelle Brandon (parent),  Alysha Braithwaite (parent), Aimara Machin (parent),  Courtney Long (principal), Shelley Allen (teacher / SCC secretary,  Karalee Birima (teacher),  Jessica Olmos (community facilitator),

  • Student Council at the Capitol
    • great experience for the students
    • would like more time at the capitol next year              
  • Parent-Teacher Conferences Dinner
    • teachers were grateful for the dinner
  • Kellogg’s & Walmart Partnership
    • Donating 500 books and snacks
  • Upcoming “No-Fuss” Fundraiser
    • goal to raise $3,000

      2. Community School Facilitator Report ~Jessica Olmos

  • Book Bistro in the library today and Thursday
    • students get to sample books and earned a book to take home
    • goal to get student excited about reading 
  • Walmart/Kellogg organization donation
    • donating 500 books 
    • Tony the Tiger will visit our 6th grade students on March 14
    • volunteer to help PTSA
  • Vision/medical van coming on March 11
  • We are Midvale Cultural Night
    • ideas or suggestions talk to Jessica Olmos
    • would like ideas for family prize

      3. Portrait of a Graduate ~Shelley Allen 
  • Continuing to read The Circuit
  • Cultural Night Hand Project 
  • 3rd Quarter PILOT reflection
  • WADE, PILOT and Rise Up projects due April 4th 


                     4. Counselors Report ~ Amy Skelton

  • Continuing working on registration/scheduling for next year
  • Last CCA lesson for 6th graders on ways to pay for college 

 

                     5. TSSP for next year  ~Courtney Long

  • Overarching Goal: 
    • The goal for Midvale Middle School is for all students to show growth in literacy and math by ensuring that students have access to high-quality instruction in a safe, positive learning environment that focuses on the overall wellness of students, as outlined in Portrait of a Graduate.


  • Areas of Focus
  • Best practices for Multilingual learners in language acquisition, creating classrooms with at least 50% expressive language observed through quality interactions
  • Best practices for graphing, using the PROPER model
  • Increase attendance rates through positive communication, awareness, and setting SMART goals through the support of the attendance committee
  • Best practices for supporting students using the Collaborative and Proactive Solutions Protocols
  • Creating meaningful Professional Learning Communities where we implement our action plan

 

  • Reading Goal
    • 75% of students will meet or exceed expected growth on the MAP Growth Reading Assessment in the 2025-2026 school year 

 

  • Math Goal
    • 60% of students will meet or exceed expected growth on the MAP Growth Math Assessment in the 2025-2026 school year

 

  • School Climate  Goals – PBIS 
    • On a monthly basis, at least 98% of students will be recognized through our school-wide positive behavior intervention system.

 

  • By May of 2026, student connectivity and wellness will increase as measured by comparing scores from last year’s and the current year’s CTESS survey through the implementation of the after-school program, counseling supports, community facilitator supports, and lessons in homeroom on Portrait of a Graduate.

 

  • Went over each action item and the associated cost and budget to help reach goals.

    • Seconded by Alysha Braithwaite

  • Showed budgets and went over major items
