Midvale Middle School is proud to announce that Jordan Geist is Midvale’s 2022 Teacher of the Year. Ms. Geist received dozens of nominations from teachers, counselors, ESP staff, parents, and students. Ms. Geist’s students love being in her class. Students mentioned that Ms. Geist “makes learning fun,” “she treats every one of her students with respect,” “she makes ELA a fun subject and is willing to help the ones who need it,” and “I know I can trust her because she has shown me how kind and helpful she can be with all of her students.” Not only do her students appreciate her, but parents also commented that Ms. Geist communicates weekly with parents and communicates better than any teacher they have ever worked with.
Ms. Geist’s colleagues appreciate that she is always the first person to help. The front office staff always knows that as soon as a call for substitute help goes out, Ms. Geist is the first to volunteer, giving up her preparation time. A colleague mentioned that Ms. Geist texts, “to check on team members when they are home ill and even helping them with sub plans.” Another teacher commented that Ms. Geist, “is always finding ways to brighten people’s day and actively listens before responding to anyone.” As the team lead, she ensures that each team member is valued and cared for.
Ms. Geist has been instrumental in the implementation and success of the After School Program. She is innovative and finds creative ways to engage students after school through enrichment activities. Students love the activities that Ms. Geist creates and you will find her playing alongside the students.
Ms. Geist is a knowledgeable Language Arts teacher and her students show incredible growth and proficiency. Many students exclaimed, “she is the best ELA teacher I have ever had.” One of Ms. Geist’s colleagues mentioned, “she facilitates a safe and vibrant classroom community where learning is both fun and rewarding.”
Ms. Geist is the perfect example of a teacher who builds trusting professional relationships with students, while ensuring that each student loves learning and achieves academic excellence. She is an inspirational colleague, who daily ensures that she is supporting all members of the staff. Ms. Geist is incredibly deserving of this honor!
