Meeting Minutes for:
September 4, 2024 – 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
In-Person Meeting: Midvale’s Front Office Conference Room
Members Present: Mac McCann (parent), Lyndzi Elsmore (parent), Steve Brown (parent), Alysha Braithwaite (parent), Michelle Brandon (parent), Janette Pasaye (parent), Courtney Long (principal), Shelley Allen (teacher), Karalee Birima (teacher), Amy Skelton (counselor), Jessica Olmos (community facilitator)

- Introduced new and existing members
2. SCC Bylaws Courtney Long
- Discussed bylaws. Currently in compliance
- We will approve our bylaws in our October meeting
3. Elect a President Courtney Long
- Lyndzi Elsmore nominated Steven Brown for chair. Karalee seconded Steve Brown for chair. He was voted in unanimously.
- Amy Skelton nominated Mac McCann for vice chair. Steve Brown seconded Mac McCann for vice chair. He was voted in unanimously.
- Michelle Brandon nominated Shelley Allen as secretary. Lydnzi Elsmore seconded Shelley Allen as secretary. She was voted in unanimously.
4. SCC Training Courtney Long
- Returning committee members only need to attend one session. New committee members should attend a new training and one of the general SCC trainings
- SCC trainings will be at the Canyons Center in the District Office at 9361 S. 300 East
September 18, 2024:
9 a.m. – 9:45 Basic SCC Training for new members and those wanting a refresher
10-11:30 a.m.: General SCC Training for all members
October 3, 2024:
1-2:30 p.m. General SCC Training for all members
5:30 – 6:15 p.m. Basic SCC Training for new members and those wanting a refresher
6:30 – 8 p.m. General SCC Training for all members
October 8, 2024:
10 – 11:30 a.m. General SCC Training for all members
6 – 7:30 p.m. General SCC Training for all members
5. PTSA Report Michelle Brandon
- Michelle Brandon is our president of our PTSA
- Kimberly Menssen is our PTSA treasurer
- Priorities
- drive community engagement and expand volunteer opportunities for the PTSA
- achieve membership goals by matching previous years’ numbers with a focus on inclusivity
- Upcoming important dates
- 9/13/24 Next PTSA meeting to vote on budget and PTSA yearly initiatives
- 9/24/24 Parent Teacher Conference Dinner
- September – October: Promote the Reflections Program
- Yearbook Volunteer: photography company can create the yearbook if the volunteer help coordinate the photos or the volunteer can create the yearbook using the company’s program
6. Community School Facilitator Report Jessica Olmos
- Our school will continue to support students basic needs: clothing, shoes, hygiene items, and food bags on Fridays
- Vision Screening for 7th graders will be on Tuesday, September 10th
- Day of Caring – October 11th, whole school service day
- Reality Town – November 7th – we need 50 volunteers
7. Portrait of a Graduate Overview/Update Shelley Allen
- Overview of Portrait of a Graduate
- Portrait of a Graduate t-shirts
- Citizenship lessons on respect and effort
- School connectedness fall survey
- Book Study: The Circuit
8. Counselors Report Amy Skelton
- 6th grade lesson – getting to know the SEL staff
- Moving students into reading and math intervention classes
- Student connectedness fall survey will be given to only students who turned in the permission forms
- 8th grade will participate in Reality Town in November
9. Teacher Student Success Plan Courtney Long

- 75% of students will meet or exceed expected growth on the reading assessment during the current school year
- 60% of students will meet or exceed expected growth on the math assessment during the current school year
- On a monthly basis, at least 98% of students will be recognized through our school-wide positive behavior intervention system
- By May of 2025, student connectivity and wellness will increase as measured by improved scores from the pre and post-wellness survey through the implementation of the after-school program, counseling supports, community facilitator supports, and lessons in homeroom on Portrait of a Graduate
10. TSSA/LAND Trust Budgets Courtney Long
- The budgets for TSSA and LAND Trust have not been allocated yet for this school year
- We will go over the TSSA/LAND Trust Budgets during our next meeting
- The majority of our budgets go toward personnel including half time salary for a school counselor, half time salary for our community facilitator, and mentors to help in the hallways and mentor students who need additional support
- Cell Tower Money
- In the past the cell tower money has gone into the principal’s discretionary fund
- Action item: decide how we would like to spend the cell tower money
- The amount varies every year
- Motion to allocate the cell tower money to the principal’s discretionary fund made by Mac McCan. The motion was seconded by Michelle Brandon. The council approved the allocation of the cell tower money to the principal’s discretionary fund.

- Mac McCan made a motion to adjourn, seconded by Janette Pasaye
