General Information about Midvale Middle School

  • Midvale Middle School is home to aproximately 800 students, 60 faculty, and 43 staff.

  • School is in session nine months a year.  We start toward the end of August and end during the first part of June.

  • Monday -- Thursday, the school day begins at 7:50 AM and ends at 2:50 PM.  On Fridays we have a late start day for students.  Students have school on Fridays from 9:30 AM to 2:50 PM.

  • The teacher/pupil ratio is 1 to 26.30 in grades 7 and 8 and 1 to 27.90 in grade 9, but actual class sizes vary (averaging between 30-33) due to teacher preparation periods and school needs.

  • Midvale Middle offers the only secondary ALPS program in the district, which accounts for 47% of the student population.  The program makes advanced classes available to gifted and talented students, allowing them to complete much of the tenth-grade curriculum before they leave middle school.  Several of Midvale’s teachers have state endorsements in Gifted and Talented education.

  • ELL students account for 29% of the school’s population.  Several teachers have  state ESL endorsements and work to help our ELL students.  Spanish-speaking staff members are available to help ELL students and their families.

  • MIdvale Middle School has been accepted as a candidate school for the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme. This will be a school wide program but within the program we will continue to offer the advanced (ALPS/SALTA) courses.

  • Midvale Middle offers a wide variety of extra-curricular programs through our homeroom and homeroom enrichments, including Debate, Science Olympiad, Math Counts, History Fair, Mock Trial, Model United Nations, and many others.

  • Our Homeroom Enrichment Program allows students to sign up for groups that meet during homeroom to explore areas of common interest with faculty.  Groups that are currently being offered include Ballroom Dance, Chess, Music Appreciation, Recycling, Scrapbooking, Study Skills and Yoga, to name a few.

  • Midvale Middle enjoys strong parent support, with 75% attendance at this fall’s Parent Teacher Conferences.

  • Our Midvale PTSA works diligently to make sure our students and teachers have the items they need to be successful.  The PTSA has many dedicated parents who spend many hours assisting in our school through running the book fair to folding newsletters each month to teacher appreication to Zoo Night, etc.

  • Our technology building is home to the Midvale Family Health Clinic.  The clinic provides health care services for the community.
